My Accessibility for Torontonians
Accessibility for Torontonians
As your City Councillor, I am deeply committed to ensuring accessibility for all residents of Scarborough. Accessibility means not only physical access but also the ability for everyone to engage fully in our community, regardless of their abilities or circumstances. Here’s how I plan to make Scarborough more accessible for all:
Physical Accessibility:
I am dedicated to making sure that everyone can move around our city with ease. I will:
- Advocate for accessible public transportation, sidewalks, and pathways to ensure that everyone, including people with disabilities, can navigate our city comfortably.
- Promote the removal of physical barriers and obstacles that hinder accessibility, such as ramps, elevators, and accessible public facilities.
Inclusive Communication:
Clear and inclusive communication is fundamental to accessibility. I will:
- Ensure that all official city communications, including websites, documents, and announcements, are accessible to people with disabilities.
- Provide information in multiple languages and formats to reach as many residents as possible.
Engaging Everyone:
I believe that civic engagement should be open to all. I will:
- Host community meetings and town hall sessions in accessible locations to ensure that everyone can participate.
- Implement strategies to engage and include people with diverse needs and backgrounds, whether through sign language interpreters, accommodations for those with sensory sensitivities, or other measures.
Inclusivity in Decision-Making:
Every Torontonian should have a voice in our city’s decision-making processes. I will:
- Work to ensure that decision-making forums, including council meetings and public consultations, are accessible to all residents.
- Collaborate with advocacy groups, organizations, and individuals who represent marginalized communities to gain insights and address their unique needs.
Empowering Everyone:
I am committed to empowering every resident to be an active part of our community. I will:
- Support initiatives that foster inclusion and diversity, such as programs that promote the involvement of marginalized groups in civic life.
- Advocate for job opportunities, education, and mentorship programs to help residents of all backgrounds thrive in our city.
Accessibility in the Digital World:
In an increasingly digital world, I will:
- Work to bridge the digital divide by ensuring that all residents have access to affordable, high-speed internet.
- Promote accessible websites, apps, and digital services, making it easier for everyone to connect and access information online.
Accessibility Beyond Disabilities:
Accessibility also means addressing social and economic barriers. I am dedicated to:
- Advocating for affordable housing, support services, and opportunities for all residents to improve their quality of life.
- Working to reduce income disparities and promote economic inclusion for marginalized communities.
I am passionate about making Scarborough a city that embraces accessibility and inclusivity. By fostering a truly accessible community, we can ensure that every Torontonian has the opportunity to thrive and participate fully in our vibrant city.
Thank you for your trust and support.
